To understand this example, you should have the knowledge of the following C programming topics:
The five letters A
, E
, I
, O
and U
are called vowels. All other alphabets are called consonants except those 5 vowels.
The program assumes the user will always enter the character of an alphabet.
The user-entered character is stored in variable c.
The lowercase variable evaluates to 1 (true) if c is a lowercase vowel and to 0 (false) if c is uppercase.
Similarly, if c is a uppercase vowel and 0 (false) for any other character, the upper case variable evaluates to 1 (true).
If either the variable lowercase or uppercase is 1 (true), then the character entered is a vowel.
Nevertheless, if both the lower case variables and the uppercase variables are 0, the character entered is a consonant.
